1. Learn some words and useful expressions:
wonder, live, treasure, underground, palace, the Summer Palace, west, king
2. Talk about Symbolic buildings:
(1) I think Emperor Qin’s Terracotta warriors are one of the greatest wonders of the world.
(2) It is in Egypt. Long ago a king built it as his tomb.
(3) It is in France. It was built for the International Exhibition of Paris in 1889.
(4) It stands in New York. It was a gift from France.
3. Master the usage of Tag Questions:
(1) You visited Emperor Qin’s Terracotta Warriors last week, didn’t you?
(2) The builders used live models, didn’t they?
(3) There are many treasures in Qin Shihuang’s Underground Palace, aren’t there?

T: We have learned something about Beijing. What did you see there?
S1:I saw some old city walls and many modern buildings and roads.
T: Are there many old city walls in Beijing now?
S1:No, there aren’t.
T: What happened to them?
S1:People pulled lots of them down in the 1960s.
T: Why did people pull them down?
S1:Because people thought them useless and some of them were worn out. They made the traffic heavier and the streets more crowded.
T: Are you for it?
S1:No, I am not.
T: Why are you against it?
S1:Because the old city walls make the city more beautiful. They attract many visitors and we can learn a lot from them about history and people.

T: You performed pretty well. Where else can you find the old city walls?

more about them? Now listen to 1a and answer the following questions:

Step 4 Practice 第四步 练习(时间:10分钟)
1. (将全班学生分成几个小组,每个小组抽一位学生代表本组发言,然后让这些被抽出来的学生轮流说出一个国家的名字,后面学生不能重复前面说过的国名。哪个组说得多,哪个组获胜。)
T: Let’s play a game. Please say the names of countries you know in turn. The group which names the most countries will be the best group.
